Safety Markings

At GM Road Markings we are specialists in providing clear and visible markings, applied specifically to keep people safe. Whether you need a crossing, walkway or lane markings, we deliver safety markings to suit a wide range of purposes.

Safety is essential for anyone on or near a road, or in an area where vehicles are driven or machinery is operated. Whether you are on foot, using pedal power, or driving a car or other vehicle, the right safety road markings can help prevent accidents and keep people out of harm’s way.

On UK roads there are 4 main types of Pedestrian Crossing. These are the Zebra Crossing, Pelican Crossing, Puffin Crossing and Toucan Crossing. Of these only Zebra Crossings are named based on the markings, resembling the black and white stripes of a zebra. Pelican and Puffin are acronyms (PEDESTRIAN LIGHT CONtrol, Pedestrian User-Friendly INtelligent) with Toucan crossings named because ‘two can’ cross together (pedestrians and cyclists).

Crossings and safe walkways for pedestrians are not limited to roads. Other sites where you may find these essential safety markings may include hospitals, schools, car parks, warehouses and loading bays. Over the years at GM Road Markings we have provided many different kinds of safety markings in all of these places and more, allowing safe passage to pedestrians around these sites.

Cyclists have a dedicated cycle symbol road marking that indicates an area of the road or path designated to bike users. The cycle marking can be found both on-road and off-road, mostly at the beginning or end of a cycle route, and will also often be seen in front of a stop line at traffic lights.

Our team are experts in the application of all road symbols including the cycle marking, and skilled in providing coloured and anti skid surfaces to cycle lanes and cycle path markings.

Dedicated lanes are often reserved on UK roads for particular vehicles in order to ensure the safe and free flow of traffic in urban areas. The most common of these are bus lanes, with their highly recognisable bus lane markings. As a leading safety markings contractor we have provided road painting for many bus stops and bus lanes across the UK, helping to keep passengers, bus drivers and other road users safe.

It is important that we do what we can to help parents ensure that their children are safe when entering and leaving school, and for that reason we include school zone markings in our safety road marking services. This includes road painting to indicate to drivers to slow, school zone speed limit markings, school keep clear markings and safe road crossing markings.

GM Road Markings are specialists at using the right line marking paint for the right job, making sure we tailor the materials to suit the application. We offer a wide range of safety marking paint, including thermoplastics and anti-skid options.
